Miika Nieminen, PhD

Miika Nieminen received his M.Sc. (1999) and Ph.D. (2002) degrees in medical physics at University of Kuopio, Finland. He is a Professor of Medical Physics at University of Oulu and Chief Physicist at Oulu University Hospital, Oulu, Finland. He is vice-chair of the Research Unit of Medical Imaging, Physics and Technology at University of Oulu, Finland. Formerly, he has conducted research at Harvard University. His principal research focus is on the development of quantitative medical imaging methods for tissue characterization. Particularly, he has significantly contributed to the development of various quantitative MRI methods for tissues affected by osteoarthritis. He received the Carl Wegelius Award of the Radiological Society of Finland in 2012 and the Fellowship Award of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) in 2015.
